Origin
Born Ryker Vale in the rusted steel town of Ashmoor, Pennsylvania, Ryker grew up in a broken home, wandering abandoned warehouses and hammering rhythms on oil drums, pipes, and scrap steel. Neighbors said they could hear strange drumming echo through empty buildings at 2 a.m.
At thirteen he lost his older brother Elias — his only real family — in a crash after a rock show during a thunderstorm. Ryker stopped speaking for nearly six months. Only drumming brought him back, and he practiced eight to ten hours a day in industrial ruins for the massive, haunting reverb.
He took the name Black from a newspaper headline — 'The Black Night of Ashmoor' — about the power outage the night of his first underground gig. 'Everything changed after darkness came.'
He met Damien while filling in for another drummer; he broke a stick, kept playing on a cracked cymbal, and outperformed everyone. 'He didn't play drums. He declared war on them,' Damien said. Raven called him 'thunder wearing black leather.' He joined immediately.
